Chugga Chugga Choo Choo!!!
Meet Thomas the Train. He was made for a special little boy named, Colton who celebrated his 2nd birthday today! At first, I didn’t sweat the thought of doing this cake. I had it all planned out in my mind…I thought it would be a piece of cake (no pun intended-I’ve always wanted to say that! heehee). Then as Friday approached, in my attempt to freeze my cake (which would make my life easier the next day), it crumbled when I picked it up. Realizing there was no way I was going to be able to carve a soft cake like that, I started getting nervous. Good news about that cake is that I know it’s going to make a scrumptious yellow layer cake!
Anyway, back to Thomas. I decided to go with my tried and true, most popular, almond vanilla cake (aka “Bliss”)…it never disappoints. Sure enough, it was perfect for carving. I spent the better part of my Saturday forming this little guy into what looked like a train wreck…that’s when panic set in. I decided to put him in the fridge and come back to him in the morning…the day of the party!! EEEEEK!!! Good news is, all this guy needed was a final coat of blue buttercream and all his bells and whistles! I was pretty thrilled with the end result…and it taught me that no matter what it looks like in the beginning, to just be patient and not throw in the towel. All in all, (and now that it’s done)…it was a fun cake to create. Everyone loved it, and most importantly, so did the birthday boy! 🙂
The most stressful part of this cake? Getting it across town in one piece. And we made it. Whew!!
